Hydrangea arborescens, commonly known as smooth hydrangea, wild hydrangea, sevenbark, or in some cases, sheep flower, is a species of flowering plant in the family Hydrangeaceae. It is a small- to medium-sized, deciduous shrub up to 3 m tall that is native to the eastern United States. The latin name comes from arbor, meaning "tree", in reference to the similarity of this shrub to a small tree.

Foliage tends to decline in dry conditions. May die to the ground in harsh winters. Bloom occurs on new wood, so prune back close to the ground in late winter to encourage vigorous stem growth and best form. Weakened and/or damaged stems should be removed in early spring.
